All of us experience powerful storms in our lives. In those dark moments, Jesus is there, He cares. It may feel like you are all alone, but Jesus is in the boat with you: even though you may not be able to see Him, His voice will speak peace to the wind, calming the waves buffeting you.

God hears every prayer; He knows what troubles you; God is concerned about you. Jesus said the hairs on your head are numbered, so don't be afraid. God is not deaf, you don't need to shout to be heard. You can speak in the softest whisper and He will hear you. You don't need to be in a big temple or church to be noticed, God will hear you wherever you are.

God identifies with you. The Scripture speaks about taking up your cross and following Jesus - the cross is not just us identifying with Him, but Jesus identifying with us. When I was in prison for Bible smuggling, I felt so abandoned by God. In the Lord's Prayer it says, 'Who is in heaven...', I argued, "You are in heaven, but I am in a stinking filthy cell, don't You understand?" Then God reminded me of the truth: He sent His Son to die a criminal's death. Jesus understood my pain - He identified with my suffering.

There comes a time in all our lives when heaven feels shut. We've prayed for deliverance, but the situation never improves, or worse, if there is an answer, God says 'no'. How do we pray in these situations? It is in these times we realise the truth contained in the Lord's Prayer - He does understand, He does care, He's our Father.

Why is God going to answer your prayer this time? Why is it going to be different? I've known Jesus a long time, and I know from long experience that He cannot fail. Like the blind man in the Bible who cried out, Jesus will help you, when you call in faith. I urge you to trust Him. 'And He said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for My strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me' (2 Corinthians 12.9, KJV).

"Lord, don't You care about us?" The disciples were just like us: facing a life-threatening storm, they did the right thing, they went straight to Jesus, but the problem was, Jesus was asleep! Yet God does care! He knows your circumstances. He's acquainted with all your ways. God is concerned enough to change it. You are fully known and loved by God.

We need to give thanks to God for all His blessings. When you meditate on all that the Lord has done, you will be filled with gratitude and joy. Just as the woman poured out her jar of perfume over Jesus, so we too must pour out our praise on Him like oil. It's so easy to lose sight of the blessings in our lives until we become consumed by our problems. Let the light of joy fill your heart as you meditate on every blessing.

Diagnosed with throat cancer in 1964, I faced a crisis in my life. I found myself constantly praying the same thing: "O God, I know You can heal, because of all the evidence in Your Word, as well as the other miracles which I have seen with my own eyes. But ... the problem is ... You can ... if You want to ... Is it Your will to heal me? All I am asking for is a positive yes or no." I picked up my Bible and read from Romans 8 verse 26, "We know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit himself maketh intercession for us ... according to the will of God." That was it! It came with certainty to me that God had said yes. I would be healed by a miracle.

We must prevail in prayer until God answers. Many are seeking power from God, but what is even greater is power with God. In Genesis 32.28, we have the story of how Jacob wrestled with God all night. At the end, God turned to Jacob and said, "As a prince, you have power with God and with man and have prevailed!"

I was sentenced to years in prison for Bible smuggling; when I had no food, I learnt how to pray; when I had no friends, I learnt how to pray; when I had no Bible, I learnt how to pray. I learnt how to talk to God in that prison. He was nearer to me in that prison than at any time before. Jesus was so near. He is friend! I know Him. I love Him! Hallelujah!
